Where Python Programming Came From and Where It's Going

By Jeff Sanders

There is no disputing the fact that Python has become one of the most widely used programming languages in the world. Ever since it first came out, coders have been at awe of what Python is capable of. It is believed amongst most experts, that the full features and capability of Python has yet to be seen by the development community. So, it is no surprise that it has been considered one of the top 10 programming languages in the world. It's leaked in at #9, but will be climbing to the top quickly due to it's class methods and easy syntax.

Origins of Python

The credit for the creation of Python must go to Mr. Guido Van Rossum, who spent a long time developing it. Mr. Rossum is believed to have begun work on the language in the month of December, 1989. But only in February, 1991 was he able to release the first version of this impressive programming language. To be specific, Python came into existence on February 20th 1991 officially.

Classification of Python

Python consists of a general purpose coding set up and belongs to the category of high-level programming languages. Readability is the top aspect of Python, that means it was built to be easy to understand by new users, a low learning curve that is. Some experts term the code syntax used in Python to be 'clear', 'concise' and 'expressive', terms that you normally don't associate with programming languages. It's extensive functions library comes built in, making certain redundant tasks easy to replicate and simplify. There are many Python training videos now out there to learn all the ins and outs to be certified in the language.

Fastest Growing Open Source Language

A compiled set of user statistics, named Ohloh, covering programming languages was recently created by Black Duck Software. These Ohloh dataset stats show that this language is trumping usage volume, proving Python to be a front-runner.
