The Creatures Found In Battlestar Galactica

By Cathy E. Dach

There are books, comics, video games, and of course, television shows, based around the original storylines and characters of Battlestar Galactica. The first television series that made the characters and core plot lines so popular amongst hardcore sci-fi fans was released in the 1970's. Since that time, its popularity has just grown and now it has found an international audience thanks to its most recent television programs and online games. The fact that BG has been able to get into the gaming world is particularly interesting; game designers have included the majority of the key characters and creatures that are already familiar to fans of the series. What are some of the key features of these video games and what makes them unique in the modern gaming world?

The main storyline of Battlestar Galactica follows human colonists who have been forced to leave their planet because of a war with the robotic and evil Cylons. The TV show followed these two groups and they also comprise the two key factions in the video game in the same franchise. When you create a character, you will be asked whether you want to work along with the humans or prefer to join forces with the Cylon. This decision is a big one because it will permanently affect the way you control your character, the types of weapons and vehicles you will be able to use, and the specific skills that your character will be able to develop.

The majority of your battles will be against your Battlestar Galactica warring faction depending on whether you opt to play as a Human or Cylon character. Of course, there will be moments when you find other creatures that do not claim allegiance to either side. You may have to fight some battles in space using your faction's fighter ships while other battles will take place on the ground using your character's abilities and items.

Because the BG game programmers have chosen to make their game in an online multiplayer style, there are also many social elements to the game. Since you have to work along with other members of your faction you will often find that teaming up with other players is the best way to advance through the game.

Battlestar Galactica already enjoys a substantial fan base around the world but now it is also able to reach out to gamers. Having the option to play as either Human or Cylon grants you an interesting choice in the game from the very start.
