Options To Choose From With ID Coders

By Keren Kipfer

ID coding machines are important to many businesses, but there is not just one type of coder to consider purchasing. Selecting the type of ID coder depends on your product and what type of coding you need to place on it. Some information about a few types of coders that you might need for your business is listed below.

To begin with, coder brands offer a wide assortment of different types of coders and there are many different brands. A Domino coder, a Willett coder, a Videojet coder or perhaps an Imaje printer or Altima coder are some of brand names that you might have heard about.

Within these brand names, you also must choose the type of coder that you need. You might need a continuous inkjet coder or CIJ printer. You might need a drop on demand printer or DOD coder. There are also thermal inkjet coders, binary inkjet coders and even print and apply coders.

You also need to consider whether you need to print small or large characters as there are coders that print specific sizes of coding. For instance a small water bottle might need smaller type, while a large section of PVC pipe would need larger printing. In addition, the type of material on which you are printing also affects your printer choice. Some printers work better on porous materials while others easily can print on slicker surfaces such as plastic or glass. You need a printer with extremely fast-drying ink that will not smudge or smear.

Aside from all of these requirements, it should be noted that a specially formulated ink and make-up fluids is needed for each type of id coder such as a Willett coder or a Domino coder. When you purchase replacement inks, you need to make sure that you are purchasing the correct ink for your specific coder since each machine has ink created specifically for that machine such as Domino inks, Imaje inks or Videojet inks.

Naturally, as they are complicated pieces of machinery, these coders have a larger price tag. A great way to save on huge expense is by purchasing a refurbished coder, such as a used Videojet printer or a used Altima coder or Domino printer. PrintJet is a company that sells refurbished coders at low prices while also formulates generic versions of Domino inks, Videojet inks and other major brands. Just like the name brands but without their high price tag is what these specially formulated inks and make-up are made of. Look into refurbished coding equipment as well as buying generic inks.
